Mark Walker has published both fiction and non-fiction, including works on Latin, medieval and ancient history, as well as music and movies.
His latest project is Hobbitus Ille, a Latin translation of J.R.R. Tolkien's The Hobbit (HarperCollins, 2012 - Amazon link here)
In 2011 his new English verse translation of Geoffrey of Monmouth's Latin Life of Merlin was published by Amberley Publishing.
He is also the author of three popular Latin books published by The History Press: Annus Horribilis: Latin for Everyday Life (2007), Annus Mirabilis: More Latin for Everyday Life (2009) and Britannica Latina: 2,000 Years of British Latin (2009).
In 2010 he founded VATES: The Journal of New Latin Poetry to promote the reading and the writing of new Latin verse. His own feeble attempts at composing Latin poetry can be read here.
In 2004, Mark set up Pineapple Publications to publish his first novel, the historical epic Amida: A Novel .
During his previous career in publishing and journalism, Mark wrote, edited and contributed to many books, magazines and internet sites. He was the founder, editor and principal contributor to the Gramophone Film Music and Musicals Good CD Guides, and continues to write about music when opportunities arise: recent commissions include concert notes for the BBC Proms, Halle Orchestra, the Royal Liverpool Philharmonic Orchestra, the Royal Scottish National Orchestra and the London Symphony Orchestra.
He has a BA Hons in Philosophy from Durham University, an MA in Classics from Lampeter University, and loves to play the mandolin.
