About the Author

Mark Walker has published both fiction and non-fiction, including works on Latin, ancient history as well as music and movies.

He is the author of three popular Latin books published by The History Press:  Annus Horribilis: Latin for Everyday Life (2007), Annus Mirabilis: More Latin for Everyday Life (2009) and Britannica Latina: 2,000 Years of British Latin (2009).

He is also the founder and editor of VATES: The Journal of New Latin Poetry. His own attempts at composing Latin poetry can be read here.

In 2004, Mark set up Pineapple Publications to publish his first novel, the historical epic Amida, after failing miserably to persuade any publisher or agent that this was actually the greatest work of fiction they had ever seen.

Pineapple Publications also published Mark's textbook for adult Latin students, Latin for Everyday Life, the book that subsequently became Annus Horribilis

Mark gained all his Latin qualifications as an adult, and now teaches Latin to other grown ups. He holds a Degree in Philosophy from Durham University and has just (2010) completed an MA in Classics with Lampeter University.

During his previous career in publishing and journalism, Mark wrote, edited and contributed to many books, magazines, newspapers and internet sites. He was the editor of the Gramophone Film Music and Musicals Good CD Guides, and continues to write about music at every opportunity: recent commissions include concert notes for the Halle Orchestra, the Royal Liverpool Philharmonic Orchestra, the Royal Scottish National Orchestra and the London Symphony Orchestra.

Mark continues to try and persuade publishers and anyone else who'll listen that he is quite talented, really, and pretty good at writing about stuff 'n' things 'n' such 'n' so on, and please would they take him seriously for once and not just ignore all his emails.
